The shopping mall, like most ambitious development the retail business, originated in the USA. Essentially, the shopping mall is large building which contains many shop under the roof. Inside, the shopping mall looks like a small town with walkways or street and along these are the shops, cafe and restaurants to suits every taste.

The advantage of the shopping mall for the retailer is that it is built only for one purpose selling goods.The ordinary street in a city or town have built for a number of purpose to allow to people to move rapidly from one place to another, to allow to people to enter their house to provide places where buses stop, etc. All these other purpose mean that retailer have problem in attracting customers. The shopping mall steet, on the other hand, have only one purpose to assist shoppers to move from one shop to another in comport. Everything in the mall is designed for one purpose and one purpose only, to encourage people to buy to shop until the drop from exhaustion.

The malls attract many shoppers because it contains shops that almost everything .Shoppers go to the mall to buy, for example, a readlymade dress. when they have bought their dress, they walk around the mall and perhaps buy themselves a snack in a cafe. Then they walk around some more and notice a shop selling the latest fashion in skirts. They enter the shop and purcase the a skirt. In this many shoppers who originally wanted to buy just one commodity end up purchasing much more. This make retailers very happy.

Another advantages of shopping malls for retailers is that the malls have parking spaces for customers cars. Consequently, people with car are attractted to shopping malls because they can easily find a parking space for their cars. It is a well known fact that people who have enough money to buy a car and also afford to buy another thigs as well. They have what is called 'purchasing power' (money to spend on luxury goods). These people make very good customers and certainly make shoppkepers very happy.

Shopping malls suit costumers because they can visit many diferent shops without having to walk along distances between shops. Another advantages is that the malls are protected by a roof from rain. Futhermore, many malls are air conditioned againts the heat. Lastly, many malls employ security men to keep thieves away and so customer can shop without worry. The side of shopping malls is that many shoppers spend more money than they intend.

The attractive shop windows tempt shoppers into buying something they not really need. Shopping malls encourage what is called 'impulse buying' - you see a drees in an attractive shop windows, and without thinking whether or not you need another dress, you buy it one impulse. Afterwards you say to yourself, "I don't know why I bought that dress; I don't even like it now !" The answer is that you couldn't resists the temptation of the shopping mall and modern retailing techniques.
